Sonnet for Nana

Sonnet for Nana

My Nana taught me resilience and strength,

And so, when I’m strong, she’ll be with me there.

For us, she’d have gone to any great length,

This true lucky few for whom she most cared.

She was this unwavering beam of light.

Always earnest, always brave, always true.

With her nearby, the whole world was more bright—

I'm scared, with her gone, there's no light to look to.

So I pray to the Lord, like she’d’ve advised,

And I realize, that light, shines on through us—

In our lives, her legacy is crystallized—

Through our strength, our service, our fearlessness.

Each one of us here, got to feel her love.

I know because she was gracious to all.

Feel this love pour down from heaven above,

She still holds my hand. She won’t let me fall.

Do not say goodbye. She guides us all yet.

Instead we’ll rejoice, and never forget.
